We stopped for a night at the small oasis village of Zaafrane on the edge of the Sahara, often called the gateway to the Grand Erg Oriental. I have wonderful memories of walking into the dunes as dusk was falling and watching the stars come out, the sound of the nomadic tribesmen and their camels in the background.
